about

Innerflight Music’s latest release, the Faze EP, is a bleeping, clicky techno affair from Centrikal, AKA Patrick Anthony Frye. With over a decade and a half of experience, Patrick Anthony found his musical inspiration during his college years in the deep-rooted Midwestern techno and house scene. Upon his return to his home town of Portland, Oregon, he has developed into a staple of the city’s electronic music community by performing and producing events, running his own vinyl label An1mlz Music, and collaborating with artists like Swedish Grammy nominee Style of Eye and labels such as Nude Photo Music.

The EP kicks off with the title track which features pad like drones given life beside percussive synths and timpani-style drums. This is followed by the evocative Drizzle Remix from Dutch producer Phaedrus (Viva Recordings, Innerflight). Here these elements are teased out with sinister effects and given more urgency with staccato driven highs. The other two originals on the release are in much the same style, but use the techy sounds for differing results. “PTech” gives off a carnival feel with upbeat synth stabs, constantly shuffling rhythmic stimulation, and a hefty low end while “Cloud City” introduces a discernibly fun bass line riff and a time-stretched break down. For techno enthusiasts, there is a lot to like about these four pleasantly neurotic and danceable, tracks.
